Everton secured their first win of pre-season on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at Finch Farm.
The match won't officially go down as Rafa Benitez's first in charge of the club, with the behind-closed-doors fixture being described as a training exercise rather than a friendly.
But the Spaniard will have still been interested to see how his new players have adapted to his methods over their first week back at the training complex.
Tom Cannon, Lewis Gibson and Anthony Gordon were the players on the scoresheet, but a number of players got opportunities to get potentially valuable minutes under their belt at Finch Farm.
And the match could have posed some intriguing transfer questions for Benitez and the rest of the Everton hierarchy as the window rumbles on.
Who will be No.2?
With Jordan Pickford still away on international duty and, at the time, preparing to represent England in the Euro 2020 final - there was an opportunity for young goalkeepers to step up.
Joao Virginia established himself as Everton's regular third-choice goalkeeper throughout the course of the 2020/21 term, and made his Premier League debut against Burnley in March after Pickford picked up an injury.
With Robin Olsen having returned to Roma after his loan spell with the club, there is seemingly a space in the squad as things stand for a No.2 at Goodison Park.
Virginia could perhaps have his eye on that role, increasing his responsibilities from last term, while Harry Tyrer also got another chance to impress on Saturday.
Having performed strongly with the under-23s over recent months, the 19-year-old also was involved in Everton's pre-season a year ago - playing against Preston.
Benitez does perhaps face a decision now over whether to sign a new goalkeeper to provide back-up to Pickford or whether he trusts the young shot-stoppers at his disposal currently.
Is a midfielder needed?
Everton were in desperate need of midfield reinforcements last summer and they secured some quality signings to achieve that.
The arrivals of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure gave the Blues more options in that area of the pitch, but respective long-term injuries to the pair highlighted how much they were relied on.
Especially towards the end of last season, supporters believed that more quality arrivals were needed in that position for the side to progress.
However, could the fitness of Jean-Philippe Gbamin change that?
The game against Accrington Stanley was of course a training exercise and shouldn't be exaggerated too much, especially considering how long the midfielder has been out-of-action for.
But perhaps Benitez could be the manager that finally benefits from the qualities the former Mainz man was initially brought to Goodison to exude.
The manager will perhaps be left with a decision to make over the rest of pre-season. Does he stick with Gbamin or does he make further additions?
Where will players end up?
Saturday's game provided an opportunity for a lot of players to pull on the Everton shirt once more, potentially looking to impress their new manager in the process.
Lewis Gibson, for example, got himself on the scoresheet in the second half after latching onto Gylfi Sigurdsson's pinpoint free kick into the box.
Having spent last season on loan with Reading, the defender struggled to make the impact he might have wanted at the Madejski Stadium.
A decision will need to be made on his future this summer, because he's at the point in his career in which he needs senior football and is too good to be used in the U23s setup.
Beni Baningime was another that got some minutes at Finch Farm on Saturday afternoon but seems to have an uncertain future at Goodison.
Another in need of senior football, a decision will have to be made on whether a loan or permanent transfer will be on the horizon for the midfielder.
Is there a striker need?
Everton's forward options looked a little light on multiple occasions last season.
Moise Kean was out on loan throughout the term with Paris Saint-Germain, while youngster Ellis Simms also secured a temporary switch in January to join Blackpool.
Joshua King was brought in to bolster those options but didn't make a single start throughout the second half of 2020/21, and has now joined newly-promoted Watford.
On Saturday Everton found themselves without both of last season's players who went out on loan, although Kean watched from the sidelines, while Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin were both out on international duty.
One question lies around their Italy international, of course. Where will his permanent future lie at the end of the transfer window?
And, if he is to leave Merseyside, then another question surely arises on whether Everton need to move for another striker to fill the void.
Do they promote Simms? Do they perhaps sign a winger and keep Richarlison as an out-and-out striker? They are all interesting queries facing Benitez over the coming weeks.
