Everton players slammed for 'cheating' Rafa Benitez as transfer questioned

Everton's first-team players have been accused of 'cheating the club' after recent below-par Premier League performances.

Rafa Benitez's side have lost each of their previous three outings, with West Ham, Watford and Wolves all earning wins against the Blues.

Recent poor displays has resulted in the Toffees dropping down to tenth position in the league standings and criticism coming the way of a number of players.

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has been anything but impressed by the current attitude of the Everton side, claiming that Benitez is being undermined by those stepping out onto the pitch to represent the club each week.

“They’ve got a bang average squad of players," Jordan told talkSPORT. "Some of them are ageing, a lot of them are overpaid for.

“They’re heavily reliant on Dominic Calvert-Lewin for goals and he’s not part of it. They’re a hotchpotch of four or five different managers' vision.

“In essence, he’s [Rafa Benitez] saying these players are cheating because if they can give it in the training ground, and they can’t give it on matchday, it doesn’t count on the training ground.

“They’re cheating the club, they’re cheating themselves and they’re cheating the manager."

Summer signings Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have made positive impressions since arriving at Goodison Park, though supporters are still waiting to see what Salomon Rondon can bring to the table.

The Venezuelan forward has offered very little in the final third in any of his eight appearances for the club so far, and Jordan can understand why fans have been left underwhelmed by his contributions.

“Rondon isn’t an exciting signing for Everton, is he?" Stated Jordan.

"He’s a reliable signing that he had previously at Newcastle and he [Benitez] knows he can go to him as a backup striker."
