Harry Tyrer
A great experience for the youngster and his took his opportunity very well. Great communication throughout, good distribution and a strong save in the first half to keep the score at 1-0 at the time.
Jonjoe Kenny
A strong return to Goodison Park for the right back, typified with his bursting run into the area to score the opening goal. Linked up play really well in the opening stages and adapted to a centre-back role admirably later in the game.
Mason Holgate
Was leading the defence well and looked a good presence against Preston's strong and physical forwards. Everton will hope the injury that forced him off in the first half isn't too serious.
Lewis Gibson
A very composed display from a young defender who has clearly taken a lot of benefits from his time on loan last term. He stepped up in the absence of Holgate in the second period and looked very mature and solid.
Niels Nkounkou
Another exciting display here from the left back after his cameo against Blackpool. Constantly looking to get forward and looked impressive in doing so.
Theo Walcott
Looked particularly sharp in the opening stages of the game when linking up with Kenny and Calvert-Lewin, but his opportunities to run down the flank dwindled as the match went on.
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Playing as the deepest central midfielder and stuck to his task well. Showed a decent energy especially in the first half and was still looking for the killer pass through the Preston defence.
Anthony Gordon
Picking up exactly where he left off last season. An energetic display this time from a central position and looking to try and create as many chances as possible. It could be a big campaign for him.
Bernard
Lined up in a central role alongside Gordon and was one of Everton's brightest sparks in a creative sense. His close control and intelligence were causing a lot of problems for the opposition and the Brazilian was looking sharp.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Was cutting a more frustrated figure as the match went on as his progressive runs were not being picked up, but he was on hand to bundle in what will have been an important goal for him.
Richarlison
Clearly Everton's most creative player throughout most of the game. His pace and skill were a constant thorn in the side of the Preston defence and he was rewarded with two great assists.
SUBS
Kyle John
Was introduced in less than ideal circumstances thanks to the injury to Gordon, but stood up to his task well and looked solid, barring a few understandable errors.
Yannick Bolasie
Was keen to show what he could do down the right hand side and set up a great chance for Richarlison particularly with a great run, although the opportunity wasn't converted. A bright display from the bench.
