Everton player ratings as several awful against Newcastle United

Jordan Pickford - 6

Was called into action on a few more occasions than he might have expected and produced a great save in the first half to tip Callum Wilson's effort onto the bar. There was then nothing he could do about the Newcastle goals.

Seamus Coleman - 4

Just couldn't find a way to influence this game in an attacking sense and struggled somewhat defensively when the visitors were able to break forward themselves. Not the best return to the side for the full back.

Yerry Mina - 5

Has had a couple of opportunities to score in the first half that he might feel he could have done a little better with, but didn't get the same kind of chances in the second period. Wilson was able to cause much more problems after the break, too.

Michael Keane - 5

Fairly cool and composed in the opening 45 minutes without having all that much to do in a defensive sense, but was asked to do more following the interval and couldn't stop Wilson changing the game.

Lucas Digne - 5

His deliveries into the box at the start of the game in particular were dangerous, but Everton just didn't manage to utilise his strengths after that. It will have been a frustrating afternoon for the left back.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 5

Newcastle took control in the midfield and Doucoure couldn't have the same amount of influence as he usually does. Was moved further forward in the second half but similarly couldn't affect the game enough.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - 4

Not the best afternoon for the Iceland international, admittedly not in his most comfortable position again. He couldn't create chances, couldn't break down Newcastle attacks often enough and the match bypassed him somewhat.

James Rodriguez - 5

Often he seemed the only Everton player capable of keeping the ball for his side. He was clearly dangerous particularly in the first half but Newcastle's targeting of him paid off after the break.

Alex Iwobi - 4

It just didn't come off at any point for the winger during the course of this game. He gave the ball away too many times and couldn't create chances for his side going forward.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 5

He didn't really have any meaningful touches inside the box of note, and that speaks to how devoid of creativity those around him were. A frustrating afternoon for the striker, certainly.

Richarlison - 5

A bright first half in general for the Brazilian was followed by a quiet second following the interval as Everton really struggled to break down their opponents.

Substitutes

Andre Gomes - 5

Played a few nice passes after being introduced but couldn't change the course of the game.
