Everton player ratings as James Rodriguez struggles but Bernard stakes claim

Jordan Pickford - 5

Nothing he could do about any of Manchester United's goals and dealt with everything else that came his way relatively well apart from one shaky moment in the second half when challenged by Harry Maguire. Fingers crossed his time with England can give him confidence.

Seamus Coleman - 5

Manchester United exposed the Blues far too many times down the right hand side in the first half in particular which Seamus Coleman struggled to deal with. The Everton captain improved as the match went on and provided much more attacking threat in the second half.

Michael Keane - 5

For both goals there were United players with far too much space in the heart of the Everton area, with questions raised about the roles of both centre-backs. The second period was much better from the England international as Everton dealt with the visitors easier.

Mason Holgate - 5

Perhaps the centre-back wasn't 100% fit and did take time to grow into this fixture, picking up a booking in the first half to show for it. However, he improved a lot after the break and looked much more like the man Everton have missed so much this term.

Lucas Digne - 7

The France international was as influential as ever. He rattled the outside of the post with a strong effort just before the half hour mark and caused havoc for the United defence breaking forward down his flank, his link-up with Bernard in particular proving crucial.

Allan - 6

Admittedly off the pace in the first half while still making a number of important tackles in midfield, the Brazilian improved after the break and showed a lot more with the ball at his feet to progress Everton up the pitch.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 6

The best of Everton's midfielders on Saturday afternoon. He seriously put himself about the pitch throughout, providing defensive cover while making some intelligent runs into the box. Perhaps should have done a little better with a late shot on goal.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - 5

The energy was there from the Iceland international but he just wasn't involved in a creative sense as much as Everton needed him to be as part of that midfield three. Was replaced in the second half by Alex Iwobi and can have little complaint about that.

James Rodriguez - 5

Another who perhaps wasn't as fit for this game as he maybe should have been following his injury absence last week. The usually influential Colombia international was on the periphery for much of this game.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 6

Did the best with what he was given especially when winning aerial duels against United's central defenders. He set up Everton's only goal of the afternoon doing just that, but was given nothing else to work with throughout.

Bernard - 7

Easily Everton's brightest and most creative player throughout the game. Drifting inside often and providing great link-up play with Digne, United could hardly contain him on occasions and he fully deserved a great goal to give Everton the lead initially.

Alex Iwobi - 6

Some really bright play when introduced to create chances for his side.

Cenk Tosun – N/A
