Everton open talks with Barcelona over Andre Gomes transfer following Tottenham interest

Everton have opened talks with Barcelona over the signing of Andre Gomes.

But Blues boss Marco Silva says the club still have work to do in order to convince the on-loan midfielder to stay at Goodison.

Everton face competition from clubs at home and abroad to land Gomes this summer but Silva played down talk of the 25-year-old having agreed terms with Spurs.

The Blues had been encouraged that the on-loan star wants to remain as part of the squad but Silva reiterated that Gomes has still yet to come to a firm decision over his future.

And the Everton manager says the club still need to do all they can to persuade the Portugal international that he should spurn interest from elsewhere and sign a long-term deal at Goodison.

“We have to do some also, it is not finished,” Silva told the ECHO .

“Andre's future we keep open, and not just Andre but Zouma also.

“But you asked me about Andre. His future is open and it is up to us the best we can do to sign him.”

Asked if talks had opened up between Everton and Barcelona, he said: “I don't know all the details but I think we already started to do something.”
