Everton officially unveil £1m forward after summer transfer from Sunderland

Everton have officially unveiled Francis Okoronkwo following his signing from Sunderland in the summer.

The forward has joined the academy ranks at Finch Farm after completing a £1m move to the club, and it is hoped he can make his debut for the under-18s in the coming weeks.

The talented striker is already highly thought of, with club chiefs believing he was one of the best under-16s in the country last season.

The 16-year-old is set to turn 17 later this month and will be eligible to sign professional terms with Everton when that comes around.

Everton agreed the seven-figure deal with League One Sunderland earlier in the summer but the agreement will only see the Blues pay a fraction of that upfront, with the rest hinging on various clauses in the contract.

Insiders have likened the deal to the one which brought Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Everton from Sheffield United in the summer of 2016. A £1.5m deal only saw the Blues pay a portion of that fee upfront.

Okoronkwo has missed the majority of pre-season and will need time to get up to speed, but it is hoped that he can potentially soon be training with the under-23s to get a taste of that level.
