Everton new stadium at Bramley-Moore dock approved by Liverpool Council

Everton's planning application for a new stadium at Bramley-Moore dock was approved by Liverpool City Council on Tuesday morning.

The local authority held a special planning committee comprised of 11 councillors to unanimously come to their determination on the proposals, which were originally submitted in December 2019 before being updated in September 2020.

The Blues CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale and stadium development director Colin Chong both spoke the club's case at Tuesday's meeting before answering questions from the panel.

Each councillor who quizzed the Everton representatives spoke of how impressed they were by the presentation prepared by the club before focusing on their specifics.

Now that planning permission has been gained at local level, the proposals will go to the Secretary of State Robert Jenrick's office as a matter of procedure for plans of this size.

They will have an initial 21 days to reach their own decision, although that could potentially take a little longer with a project of this magnitude.

If approval is gained at that level, and barring the proposals being "called in" higher up in Government, then Everton can get to work finalising funding and a construction plan.

The Blues still hope to begin work on Bramley-Moore in the spring or summer of 2021, with an 150-week build plan being mapped out in the council's planning report last week.

That could potentially see Everton in their new ground ready for the 2024/25 season.
