Everton new manager search will consider candidates without Premier League experience

Everton are open to the idea of appointing a new manager who has never worked in the Premier League before.

Top-flight experience in this country is not deemed as an essential trait by the club's decision-makers as they look to find a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti who sensationally quit on Tuesday.

Director of football Marcel Brands had received the names of more than 40 hopefuls within 24 hours of Ancelotti's departure and, yesterday, the club were creating a shortlist of candidates.

Talks have opened with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo but an appointment is not imminent as Everton move through the process thoroughly.

Let us know your thoughts on Carlo Ancelotti's exit and what's next for Everton here.

And while Espirito Santo, who brought Wolves up in 2018, is considered the early front-runner, the ECHO has been told that Everton will consider managers who have not worked in the Premier League before.

All of the previous four managers who have been appointed in the Farhad Moshiri era have managed in the division before and Espirito Santo has over 100 top flight matches under this belt.
