Everton new manager - Marcel Brands' 'preferred option' amid Nuno Espirito Santo stumbling block

Everton are on the hunt for their new manager after the sudden departure of Carlo Ancelotti.

The now-former Blues boss left for Real Madrid in sudden circumstances at the start of this month, and now the club are looking for his replacement.

Whoever takes over will be looking to improve on Everton’s 10th place finish in the Premier League.

Here is our daily round-up of the latest pieces of gossip flying around over who could become the new Blues manager.

Nuno interview

According to Football Insider , former Wolves boss Nuno Espritio Santo has been interviewed by Everton for the vacant manager’s job.

Santo has been the bookies' favourite to replace Ancelotti ever since the Italian departed last week.

The reports goes on to state that Everton chiefs spoke to Nuno at the weekend over the job as they look to act swiftly in appointing a new manager.

However one ‘stumbling block’ in the report suggests that Nuno would want a large backroom team which may not be possible at Goodison.

Nuno had his number two Rui Pedro Silva, first-team coaches Ian Cathro and Julio Figueroa, goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa, fitness coach Antonio Dias and rehab coach Joao Lapa all leave Wolves with him last month.

Potter interest

According to The Athletic , a key staff member at Everton is a fan of Brighton boss Graham Potter.

The report states that director of football Marcel Brands is an admirer of the former Swansea manager, and could be in the running to replace Ancelotti.

It has also been claimed that Potter is “someone no one has disregarded” in the Everton hiring department.

Potter took over at Brighton in 2019 and has guided the Seagulls to 16th and 15th place finishes over the past two seasons.

Rafa Benitez talks

It has also been claimed by The Athletic that Rafa Benitez is willing to speak to Everton about the vacancy at Goodison.

However, the report states that Benitez's association with Liverpool makes him a tough sell to some members of the Everton board.

Benitez has stated previously that he is keen to return to management in England after leaving the Chinese Super League in January, and currently lives in Merseyside.
