Everton new boy Moise Kean left out of Italy squad as punishment, confirms Roberto Mancini

Everton's new signing Moise Kean has been omitted from the Italy squad by way of punishment.

Italy manager Roberto Mancini confirmed that Kean and Roma's Nicolo Zaniolo had both been left out, stating: "Professionals must always behave well.”

The duo performed well for their country last season, but were criticised for arriving late for a team meeting at the Euro under-21 championships earlier this summer.

And it comes just days after Graeme Souness questioned Kean's "off-field activities" and suggested their were "other issues" with the forward.

Mancini said at a press conference: "“My team is already quite defined.

“If any interesting new faces came forward, we’d make them available to us. We’ll see what happens between now and the start of the European Championship.

“Here we are with the players who have been called up. If someone sensational breaks out, we’d gladly call them up.

“I’m sure they'll [Kean and Zaniolo] come in handy later on. I don’t like leaving them behind as punishment They’re still young.

“We gave them a great opportunity and we hope this helps them going forward. They must learn to behave well. Professionals must always behave well."

Kean has only just moved to Goodison Park from Juventus in the summer transfer window for a fee that could rise to £27.5 million.

But Souness was sceptical about why Juve were happy to let the 19-year-old leave for such a modest fee.

He said on Sky Sports: "At 19, why have they sold him? Personally, slight alarm bell going off in my head.

"Juventus are arguably the biggest club in Italy, wealthiest club in Italy. Given that they've got an older strike force, you're selling a 19-year-old, who won't be hurting you wage-wise.

"They've not got £100m-plus for him. I think there'll be other issues there.

"I don't know if Juve have a buy-back clause. If they don't then that will tell you they're happy to see him out the door. At 19.

"It doesn't make any common sense if you're Juventus.

"It's as if they're like, 'Go on, we don't care how good he's going to be, you can take him'.

"Which would suggest off the field activities are not the best."
