Everton must stop being the 'nice club' and start taking the League Cup seriously

I say this every year, but when it comes to the League Cup, Everton have got to play their best team - I don't understand why you wouldn't.

It's still early in the season, the players are still getting to know each other, so what better way of doing that than against some lower league opposition?

I can perhaps understand changing the odd one or two maybe, bring in players that we might need if we have a few more injuries.

But, I'd like to see a strong side, at least for the first hour.

Get our match fitness up, get the rhythm of playing football again which is very important.

Their chairman is a mad Evertonian, but of course he'll want his side to do well!

But we are absolutely desperate for a cup run. Year after year we're left disappointed because we've put a weaker team out, or not taken it seriously enough.

The mindset and the mentality after making a few changes isn't right and we've paid the price.

It shouldn't matter. We're playing Lincoln, the players should go out and prove why they're playing for Everton Football Club.

Their fans will be loving it, they'll be making noise - but let's be ruthless for once. Let's not go out and be the nice club.

We should be trying to roll them over and try and take as many positives as we can into the league.

The good thing about this week is we've got a game straight after the disappointment against Aston Villa to quickly put it on the back burner.

We've got an opportunity to get that feel-god factor back but it's up to the players to deliver.
