Everton move for Ainsley Maitland-Niles as Nathan Patterson pursuit takes new twist

Everton are in talks with Arsenal over the loan signing of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The Blues have been in the hunt for right-back reinforcements all summer.

And they are now pushing to sign Maitland-Niles ahead of the transfer deadline.

But it is also understood that Everton are still keen on Rangers’ Nathan Patterson and have submitted a second bid for the teenage full-back, which has been rejected.

Maitland-Niles can also play in midfield and Everton hope to seal a deal for the 24-year-old - with an option to buy the player next summer - before tomorrow night's deadline.

Everton had a £5m approach for Patterson rejected last week but have tested Rangers’ resolve once more with an improved offer of around £8m.

But Rangers are standing firm on the 19-year-old.

The transfer window shuts at 11pm on Tuesday evening, as a busy two days look set to unfold for the Blues.
