Everton morning headlines as teen target emerges and Seamus Coleman role changes

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Sunday, 27 September.

Ancelotti praises team after “difficult” victory at Palace

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti praised his team’s spirit in the second half against Crystal Palace, but admitted they found things difficult.

The Italian watched on as his side made it three wins in as many matches with a 2-1 victory over the Eagles at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.

An early Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal followed by a Richarlison penalty were enough to secure all three points and send the Blues top of the table.

Ancelotti told his post-match press conference : “The performance was difficult. We had difficulties.

“The first-half was quite good, we were able to play as we wanted. The second-half was more difficult because Crystal Palace played a good second-half putting a lot of pressure on us.

“We were not able to play with the ball as we wanted, but the spirit defensively was good.”

James proves doubters wrong – leaving Coleman to defy expectations

There were some questions aimed at Everton over the signing of James Rodriguez before the beginning of the campaign.

But the Colombia international has spent his first three Premier League matches vehemently proving any doubters wrong, according to the ECHO’s Everton reporter Adam Jones.

Some wondered whether captain Seamus Coleman would be left a little exposed defensively – but Rodriguez is getting the best out of the right-back so far.

Jones writes: “The Colombian lines-up on that flank when the formation is announced but he hardly plays as a winger. Instead, he's given free roam almost to drift around the pitch as he pleases.

“Of course that allows him to produce some incredible link-up play which was again on display against Crystal Palace on Saturday. His raking balls across the final third were a nightmare for the hosts to deal with.

“While, in theory, that might leave Coleman a little exposed - the Blues captain is defying any expectations some might have had of him at the beginning of the campaign.”

Swedish teenager could be set for Everton move

Everton have held talks over the signing of Swedish youngster Imam Jagne.

The 16-year-old midfielder plays for BK Häcken, with director of football Marcel Brands holding discussions over his potential transfer.

The ECHO understands that the Blues are yet to make a decision over Jagne, but a three-year contract has been touted.

Jagne, who also holds Gambian citizenship, plays as a defensive midfielder and is under contract with Häcken until 2022.
