Everton morning headlines as striker departure is confirmed and Ancelotti eases Richarlison fears

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Thursday, July 2.

Everton sell Hornby to French side

Everton confirmed on Wednesday night the departure of striker Fraser Hornby to Stade de Reims.

Hornby, 20, spent last season on loan at Belgian side Kortrijk, who opted not to make his spell permanent.

However, the Everton under-23s forward has followed Morgan Schneiderlin to France and is the second player to leave Goodison Park this summer.

Hornby made one senior appearance for the Blues in three years, coming on as a late substitute against Apollon Limassol in the Europa League in December 2017.

Ancelotti eases Richarlison fears

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has eased fears over Richarlison's fitness after the Brazilian was forced off with an injury in the win over Leicester City.

The Brazilian opened the scoring in the 2-1 victory before hobbling off following a strong challenge from Foxes midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

However, Ancelotti said he is confident Richarlison will be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

"It was only a knock on his ankle - he will not have a problem recovering,” said the Italian.

The Toffees’ win leaves the club just two points behind Arsenal in the race for European football.

Everton looking to strengthen right side - Carragher

Boyhood Everton fan Jamie Carragher says the Toffees should prioritise the signing of a new right winger this summer.

Ancelotti is short of options on that flank with Theo Walcott as his only orthodox option.

And Carragher revealed Marcel Brands, Everton’s Director of Football, has mentioned the need for reinforcements in that position.

“Well, that’s a position (right wing) they identified,” Carragher told Sky Sports .

“I think when the club got together for the shareholders meeting they have once a year, that was a big area I think Marcel Brands mentioned they want to strengthen.

“(There’s) only really Theo Walcott in the squad who has real class as a right-sided player. If Everton do go into the market, which I think they will, that may be the first position they will look for.”
