Everton morning headlines as midfielder edges closer to exit

Here are the Everton morning headlines for Monday, June 22.

Schneiderlin closing in on exit

French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin looks to be closing in on a move to Nice, with the club’s sporting director Julien Fournier quoted as saying he should sign on Monday.

However, the ECHO understands that no fee has been agreed between the clubs as yet, with Everton seeking around £2million for the 30-year-old.

Schneiderlin signed three-and-a-half years ago from Manchester United for £20m, but is currently out with a knee injury and has just one year left to run on his deal.

Ancelotti names the player who “set example” in Merseyside derby

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has said a draw was a fair result against Liverpool on Sunday, with his team creating late chances after the Reds had dominated possession for most of the game.

There were a few chances at either end, but Everton went closest in the latter stages in the 0-0 draw, which left Liverpool five points from clinching the title.

The Italian tactician explained how the team changed approach during the match, to combat the Reds’ high press, and picked out Seamus Coleman as the player who led the way.

“Liverpool played a good game and they had more possession, but defensively we were really good,” he said.

“They pressed really high and it was difficult to find a solution from the back. So we decided to play more long balls than usual.

“He [Coleman] did really well. I think overall for him the derby is really special. He was strong, concentrated – he was a great example for the others. The sacrifice, the teamwork that the players showed was really good.”

Derby pre-game disruption explained

Ahead of kick-off at Goodison Park on Sunday, a loud noise from an overhead plane threatened to drown out the Sky Sports presenters discussing the match.

The source of the disruption has been explained now, with Everton supporters club The Blue Union tweeting an image later that evening.

A plane trailing a banner reading “#BABetrayal” can be seen, with the message intended to alert viewers to British Airways’ alleged plans to leave employees out of pocket in cost-cutting measures to deal with the recent drop in air travel.
