Everton morning headlines as James Rodriguez holds 'big name' transfer wish

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Sunday, 13 September.

James Rodriguez hopes for more “big name” transfers

Everton’s signing of James Rodriguez from Real Madrid is one of the biggest transfers of the summer window to date.

The Colombia international has now spoken of what the club must do to find success in the coming seasons and also spoke of his hope of more notable players joining him at Goodison Park.

Rodriguez said, as per the Echo : “There are some serious-minded people at this club who mean business about getting this club into those Champions League places and that's very important, I think.

“Obviously you have to fight hard to get in those places and what you have to do is show consistency.

“In a Premier League season you're talking about a game every three or four days a lot of the season, so you have to show a high standard and display a high standard of football not just every other game, but every game.

“We need to be consistent and perform at our highest level if we want to be up there fighting for those top places.

“We can't afford to be up and down in our performances.

“It helps obviously when you've got a great and hugely knowledgeable manager that we have.

“The club has proved its intent with the three signings it's made in this window and let's hope that, in the next few months, we can show that optimism.

“Let's hope over the period of seasons and the next few years, other big names will come in to join us.”

Blues begin season with no sleeve sponsorship

Everton will start the new Premier League season without a sleeve sponsor on their new Hummel kit as their three-year deal with Rovio, the company behind Angry Birds, has expired.

The details are outlined by a report in the Echo , who say that despite talks between the club and the company, no agreement could be found.

Everton - who have a new front of shirt sponsor in Cazoo - are on the lookout for a new sleeve sponsorship.

Everton deal for Doucouré praised

It has been a busy period of transfers at Goodison Park with Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré among the incomings.

Doucouré was one of three midfield arrivals including Allan and Rodriguez, with former Blues captain Kevin Campbell claiming it was great business for the club.

“There were other clubs in for Doucouré so it is a great piece of business for Everton,” Campbell told Genting Betting, via the Echo .

“For a couple of seasons, I’ve been shouting for him to sign for Arsenal because of that physicality. His style is smart.

“He can play defensive, he can play box to box, he can do multiple things. It is vital to have a player like that in the Premier League.

“He is a player that Everton have been after for the last two seasons, even when Marco Silva was at the club.

“So, it is third time lucky for the club. Everton are a big club though, so I’m not surprised they have signed him.”
