Everton morning headlines as goalkeeper contract decision finalised

Here are the Everton morning headlines for Tuesday, June 23.

Stekelenburg signs short-term deal

Everton have confirmed second-choice goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg will delay his move to Ajax and remain at the club until the 2019/20 Premier League campaign is concluded.

The 37-year-old stopper’s contract at Goodison was set to expire on June 30 but he has agreed a short-term deal with the Toffees to see out the remainder of the season.

Stekelenburg, who has made 26 appearances for Everton, will stay on as deputy to Jordan Pickford.

However, after Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s final game of the campaign against Bournemouth, he will return to Ajax, a club he previously spent nine years with.

Changes likely for Norwich clash

After claiming a much-deserved point from the Merseyside derby, Everton will hope to secure all three when they face bottom of the table Norwich City tomorrow (Wednesday) evening.

Ancelotti’s side did an excellent job of stifling Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday but the game at Carrow Road will almost certainly require a different, more attack-minded approach.

And with the fixtures coming thick and fast over the coming weeks, heavy rotation is a given. So how could Everton line up?

Our correspondent Joe Rimmer has looked into the changes Ancelotti could make, including a switch in system and perhaps even a rare start for Moise Kean.

It’s all here.

Ancelotti accused of tax fraud

Prosecutors in Spain have accused Ancelotti of failing to pay €1million in taxes during his time in charge of Real Madrid.

The Madrid Community Prosecutor's office alleges the Everton manager avoided paying taxes on his image rights earnings during his time in charge of Los Blancos in 2014 and 2015.

It added the 61-year-old Italian coach concealed revenues "intending to avoid his tax duties towards the public treasury with no justification", as quoted by BBC Sport

Ancelotti has yet to respond to the accusation and Everton have not commented on the matter.
