Everton morning headlines as double transfer can help expand Carlo Ancelotti ideas

Here are the Everton morning headlines for Tuesday, September 1.

James and Allan could unlock expansion

Everton look set to complete the signings of James Rodriguez and Allan in the coming days.

The Blues badly needed reinforcements in the centre of the pitch going into the summer, so supporters will be delighted if the club gets the deals over the line.

Not only would the signings improve Everton’s squad, they might also give Carlo Ancelotti the chance to expand his ideas.

The Italian favoured a 4-4-2 for much of last term, but James’ ability to play as a No.10 would give him the option of altering formation.

Allan would also bring different qualities to the Everton engine room, and the team may become more flexible as a result.

What does this season hold?

ECHO writers have given their verdicts on what would represent a successful season for Everton in 2020/21.

The Blues will certainly hope to improve on last term’s underwhelming 12th-place finish in the Premier League.

But Everton were also disappointing in the domestic cups, and Adam Jones is keen to see the club end their 25-year trophy drought.

Chris Beesley believes Champions League qualification is not entirely out of the question.

And Sam Carroll thinks a piece of silverware would instantly make Ancelotti a club legend.

Supporter launches crowdfunding appeal

An Everton fan is hoping to raise £5,000 for a new mural in Liverpool city centre.

Paul Morgan, the man behind the Kit It Out initiative that brought jerseys to underprivileged children last year, wants youngsters to be able to “look up to their idols” in a new piece of artwork.

Voters in an online poll decided Leighton Baines, Neville Southall and Howard Kendall would be depicted in the mural.

“It is good to see that little kids are going and looking at the Liverpool murals and seeing the people they aspire to be so as an Everton fan, I thought, well, for young Blues, would it not be good to have Everton murals around the city centre?" he told the ECHO

"There are Everton fans out there who want to look up to and aspire to be Everton players so why can't they see murals around the city like Liverpool?"
