Everton morning headlines as Carlo Ancelotti sends crucial message to players ahead of derby

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Saturday, 17 October.

Allan ‘didn’t think twice’ about Everton move

Everton midfielder Allan has revealed he did not hesitate over a move to Goodison Park despite interest from other clubs.

The Brazilian joined the Blues from Napoli over the summer, reuniting him with former boss Carlo Ancelotti.

And the 29-year-old admits the experienced Italian was a key factor in his decision to join Everton with the pair having gelled during their time together in Naples.

"Without a doubt there were other bids and interest from elsewhere but Everton had been interested in signing me right from the very start," said Allan .

Blood Red: Carlo Ancelotti's message to his Everton players ahead of the Merseyside Derby

"They showed this desire, both Carlo Ancelotti and the director, to have me here as a player, when you see this commitment and that Everton were interested in me, I didn't have to think about it twice.

"I put the other bids to one side and just focused on signing for Everton.

"Without a doubt working with Carlo Ancelotti weighed heavily on my decision, also the size of Everton as a club. I didn't have to think too much about it. It was a good choice and I hope to contribute to a great season for the club."

Ancelotti fires up ‘lucky’ Everton players ahead of derby clash

Blues boss Ancelotti has reminded his players how lucky they are to be representing the club as they prepare to welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park in today’s lunchtime kick-off.

Everton are hoping to extend their winning start to the season with a first league victory over the Reds since October 17, 2010 - exactly 10 years ago.

"For a professional approach, you have to stay balanced mentally in a derby," Ancelotti wrote in his programme notes.

"But, at the same time, you can understand the emotion and history and rivalry – and realise how lucky you are to play for Everton and be part of this huge occasion.

"If you have a positive impact in this match supporters will always remember, you become part of the Club’s history.

"In the future, it will be somebody else’s turn to have this opportunity.”

Calvert-Lewin’s response to father’s emotional Facebook post

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin says he was delighted to read an emotional Facebook post from his father after scoring his first goal for England.

Calvert-Lewin marked his England debut with a goal against Wales last Thursday evening, prompting his father to detail the troubles his son has gone through to get to the top of the game.

"I got it sent to me, I don’t have Facebook you see!,” Calvert-Lewin told BT Sport .

"He was probably the proudest man on the planet. My dad is somebody who I’ve always looked up to growing up playing football. He’s always been there for me and been my biggest fan.

"When things have been tough he’s always been there for me and told me to keep going and always told me to keep believing in myself and back my ability to matter what the scenario or circumstance.

"For me to read that it was nice to read and I facetimed him after I made my debut and he had a big smile on his face, I think he was having a celebratory pint!

"It’s something we spoke about together and there’s been tough times we’ve gone through together and he’s always been there for me and I couldn’t thank him enough for that.

Calvert-Lewin is hoping to continue his excellent start to the season against Liverpool, with the 23-year-old having scored nine goals in six games for the Blues already this term.
