Everton morning headlines as Carlo Ancelotti handed new transfer problem

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Sunday, 6 September.

Everton’s defensive worries mount after Holgate’s injury

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has been handed a transfer conundrum after key defender Mason Holgate was withdrawn through injury during the club’s friendly against Preston North End on Saturday.

Holgate has established himself as a real leader at the back, but hobbled off half an hour into the Preston game – which Everton won 2-0 – after he went down trying to retrieve a loose ball.

And The ECHO’s Everton reporter Adam Jones believes that the situation may well give Ancelotti something to consider with a bit of time remaining in the transfer window.

Yerry Mina is continuing his recovery, while Jarrad Branthwaite picked up a slight knock – which is not a serious problem.

And with Michael Keane away on international duty with England, Holgate’s injury has left Everton’s options at centre-back looking incredibly thin.

Richarlison was key to Allan move

New Everton signing Allan has revealed the role played by fellow Brazilian Richarlison in his move from Napoli to Goodison Park.

The midfielder became Carlo Ancelotti’s first major signing of the summer transfer window, after joining in a deal believed to be worth around £20million.

And the 29-year-old – who watched Everton beat Preston in Saturday’s friendly – has spoken about the role Richarlison played.

Allan told evertonfc.com : “I talked a lot with Richarlison during the negotiations about coming to Everton.

“He was asking me, ‘When are you coming? We need you here, come here’.”

Kenny shows quality as Everton right-back makes his return

Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny has answered the club’s transfer question after he was given his chance to impress during Saturday’s game against Preston.

The full-back, who spent the whole of last season on loan with German side Schalke, started against the Championship side in the absence of Seamus Coleman, who was away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

The opening stages of the game allowed the 23-year-old to show off his best qualities, linking play and getting up the pitch to support the attack.

According to The ECHO’s Everton reporter Adam Jones, manager Carlo Ancelotti will surely have been impressed by Kenny.

He writes : “There have been some questions over Everton’s right-back berth for the coming campaign, but if Kenny continues to perform like that then there will be nothing to worry about.”
