Everton morning headlines as Carlo Ancelotti explains squad omission

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Monday, 28 September.

Carlo Ancelotti explains Theo Walcott omission amid transfer links

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has explained why Theo Walcott wasn’t in the matchday squad for Everton’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The former Arsenal forward has now been left out of Ancelotti’s last two squads in the Premier League, prompting transfer speculation.

"I don't think so,” replied the Italian when asked if his omission was a hint that the 31-year-old could leave Goodison Park before the transfer window closes.

“The problem is the competition is really high in this moment.

"Sometimes it can happen that a player, like Theo, is not involved.

"Unfortunately this is the decision I have to take and I am not absolutely happy to take this kind of decision, to leave out a player like Walcott.”

Here’s what Ancelotti said in full .

Seamus Coleman compared to Paolo Maldini and Sergio Ramos

Ancelotti has said Seamus Coleman shows the same kind of leadership qualities as some of the best captains he’s worked with in the past, such as Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos and Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

The Republic of Ireland international has started the new season in great individual form, but received praise as much for his off-field contributions.

"Seamus is a great example of a captain. I have a lot of captains in my career but Seamus has a lot of spirit and attitude and how he is able to explain his love for the shirt is really top,” said the 61-year-old Blues chief.

"He is a great captain, I cannot make a list but he is a great captain, honestly.

"Maldini, John Terry, Sergio Ramos, that kind of captain."

Blues ‘convinced’ to pay Arkadiusz Milik fee

Polish international striker Arkadiusz Milik could be set to follow in Ancelotti and Allan’s footsteps in leaving Napoli for Merseyside, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport.

The report, cited by Sport Witness , claims that Everton have been “convinced” to pay the €25m (£22.7m) fee required to sign the 26-year-old.

Milik is entering the final year of his contract at the Serie A club and is said to favour a move away before the transfer window closes next week.
