Everton morning headlines as Cahill reveals Ancelotti meeting and Silva makes transfer admission

Here are your Everton morning headlines for June 14.

Tim Cahill reveals emotional moment with Carlo Ancelotti

Former Everton captain Tim Cahill has opened up on an emotional moment he shared with Carlo Ancelotti when he last visited the club.

Speaking to The Scottish Daily Mail , he said: “When I was last at Everton, just before the pandemic, he drove past me and then he stopped, reversed, got out of the car and gave me a hug.

“That is part of what Everton means. He knows that by the way he talks about the club. You can hear it in his voice.”

Cahill’s son Shae is enrolled in the Everton academy and he reserved high praise for the club’s youth set up.

“It’s just amazing he can learn in that environment [and] understand the club, the badge,” he added.

Debate over whether to record lowest ever attendance for Merseyside derby

There is likely to be a debate over whether to officially record the attendance for the Merseyside derby, reports the ECHO’s Phil Kirkbride .

Only around 300 people will be allowed inside Goodison Park next Sunday, including a select number of directors, club officials, journalists and broadcasters as well as the two teams themselves.

The lowest ever attendance for a Merseyside derby is 18,000, recorded at Anfield in 1901.

Preparations at Goodison Park for behind closed doors derby

Given the exceptional circumstances, however, many will question the legitimacy of setting a new record low.

Other leagues seem to have taken a flexible stance on recording official attendances, with the Bundesliga website declining to provide attendance information since football made its comeback in Germany last month.

Silva makes transfer admission amid Everton links

Having been linked with a move to Everton in recent weeks, PSG defender Thiago Silva has made an interesting admission on his future.

Speaking to Caras Brasil on Instagram, via Calciomercato , he was asked whether he would consider a return to boyhood club Fluminense at the end of his career.

“I’m enormously grateful to Fluminense for all that they have given me, but I still have goals to achieve in Europe,” he said.

Silva has also been linked with AC Milan, Napoli and Wolves.
