Everton morning headlines as Ben Godfrey transfer stance outlined and Carlo Ancelotti makes trophy vow

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Thursday, 1 October.

Godfrey ‘a really good centre-back’ - Ancelotti

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti last night admitted his admiration for Norwich City’s Ben Godfrey as the Blues’ search for defensive reinforcements continues.

Everton are keen to sign a centre-back this week, with Godfrey having emerged as the club’s first-choice target.

Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori and Barcelona’s Jean-Clair Todibo have also been touted as possible solutions.

Premier League clubs have until 5pm on October 16 to do business with EFL sides.

"We are looking for a centre-back, we are short there, Ancelotti said after Everton’s 4-1 Carabao Cup win over West Ham United.

"Godfrey is a really good centre-back but he plays, in this moment, for Norwich. I cannot say anymore.”

Allan once again impresses before injury scare

Everton midfielder Allan produced another thoroughly impressive display on Wednesday night to help the Blues ease into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The Brazilian excelled in a more advanced role, helping to link the play close to the West Ham box while striving to stop the Hammers from launching their own attacks.

It was another convincing display from Allan, who has slotted seamlessly into Ancelotti’s side since joining from Napoli, writes ECHO Everton reporter Adam Jones .

Allan was forced off with an injury against West Ham, and while Ancelotti attempted to ease fears during his post-match remarks, it is understandable that Everton fans would feel uneasy about seeing the 29-year-old hobble off.

It seems that, 18 months after selling Idrissa Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain, the Blues have finally found a suitable replacement.

Ancelotti learning ‘Spirit of the Blues’

Ancelotti has revealed that he is learning the lyrics to ‘Spirit of the Blues’ in the hope that his side reach the Carabao Cup final.

The anthem, originally released ahead of the 1984 FA Cup final, has experienced a recent resurgence following Everton’s impressive start to the season, reaching top spot in the iTunes charts on Sunday evening.

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he's currently learning the lyrics to 'Spirit of the Blues' and teased when Everton fans will be able to first hear him sing the popular club song.

And while Ancelotti revealed that he has been studying the lyrics, he says he will stick to his tradition of singing only when his teams win a trophy.

"I'm trying to learn the song because I like to sing," said the Italian .

"But as you know, I sing only when we win trophies - so I hope to sing soon!"

"Yeah, I hope so (to sing after winning the Carabao Cup). We'll do our best."
