Everton morning headlines as Barcelona's Jean-Clair Todibo on transfer shortlist

Everton eye Todibo deal

Everton are considering a loan move for Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo with Carlo Ancelotti keen to shore up his defence before the close of the transfer window.

The club are not thought to be pursuing permanent moves, but a list of potential loan signs has been drawn up by the recruitment team.

Everton need defensive reinforcements with Mason Holgate set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a toe injury.

And Ancelotti has turned his attention to Todibo after missing out on Thiago Silva, who joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain.

Todibo spent the second half of last season on loan at Schalke from Barca but is available again with the German side having turned down the chance to sign him on a permanent basis.

Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori is another player under consideration by the Blues.

James opens up on Real Madrid exit

James Rodriguez has lifted the lid on the frustrations he endured under Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid.

The Colombian was a regular under Ancelotti when he first joined the Spanish giants but became marginalised under the Frenchman.

But the 29-year-old insisted that, while his playing time was reduced under Zidane, he still learned important lessons under the iconic former midfielder.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand's Five YouTube channel , Rodriguez said: "With Zidane, I didn't play much in the first part because when you win things with certain people, certain players, you already trust them, right?

"So it was something that happened with him but from all three managers I learned things.

"I learned good things, bad things, and I didn't play much with Zidane."

Rodriguez has started his Premier League career in impressive fashion, netting his first goal in Everton’s 5-2 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Ancelotti pleased with Gordon reaction to squad omission

Everton boss Ancelotti says he was pleased to see Anthony Gordon knocking on his door after leaving the teenager out of his first two league squads of the season.

Gordon impressed in the Carabao Cup win over Salford City, only to be left out of Ancelotti’s squad for the West Brom game.

Speaking ahead of the Blues’ Carabao Cup clash with Fleetwood Town, Ancelotti insisted that Gordon remains part of his plans with the 19-year-old having recently penned a new five-year contract.

"He wanted an explanation and so I explained to him the squad is really competitive and sometimes it can happen that the players are not involved," said Ancelotti.

"But this doesn't mean I don't believe in them.

"I believe and so he had the opportunity against Salford to show us his quality, he took the opportunity because he played really well.

"It can happen sometimes, also for important players, that players are not involved in the game. This is what can happen in all the competitive teams.

"The fact that we want to be competitive means that sometimes players have to stay out."
