Everton might have dropped Cenk Tosun hint with Andros Townsend decision

Cenk Tosun's future at Everton is still a little up-in-the-air, and Andros Townsend's pre-season squad number could perhaps hint towards the plans for him at Goodison.

The striker has been out-of-action since returning from his loan spell at Besiktas early last season after suffering a serious injury.

The 30-year-old had surgery on the issue in April and it was initially believed that it would lead to him spending an extended amount of time on the sidelines, until at least November.

Meanwhile, Everton have already made a trio of new signings over the course of the summer - with Andros Townsend being the first of those when he was announced earlier this week.

When the arrival of the former Crystal Palace man was confirmed he was not assigned a squad number, and officially he still hasn't by the club.

For context, when Demarai Gray's signature was announced, it was revealed that he would be wearing the previously vacant No.11 jersey for the 2021/22 campaign.

Throughout Everton's tour of the United States this summer, however, the squad have been wearing their official numbers for matches.

And, that has led to Townsend donning the No.14, usually that of Tosun.

Whether that was randomly assigned is yet to be seen, and will be fully confirmed before the 2021/22 campaign gets underway against Southampton on August 14th.

It is believed that Tosun is not in Benitez's plans for the upcoming season, and having his usual squad number taken away from him could be a further hint towards that fact.
