Everton midfielder Tom Davies told he is 'something special' by Marco Silva

Tom Davies has been described as "something special" by Everton boss Marco Silva.

The 21-year-old was handed his first league start of the season on Saturday for the Blues' crunch game with West Ham.

Davies was partnered alongside Andre Gomes and served up one of his most accomplished displays for the club.

Theo Walcott, making only his second league start of the campaign, also repaid Silva's faith in him for his best performance since the early stages of last season and the way both players took their chance at Goodison delighted the manager.

And while Walcott has, once again, been praised for his professionalism, Silva reserved a unique assessment for Academy graduate Davies.

"They are working hard and they know what they should do, and not just the players who are playing regularly," Silva said.

"The competition for their positions is tough but when you are a football player you have to take your chance when it comes and it's good for me to see them doing that.

"I like Theo as a lad. I like Tom as a lad.

"Tom is something special for me because he loves the club, he is a lad from our club and he is special, it doesn't matter if he's played ten or thirty games for me.

"Theo is an example as a professional. The way they played really impressed me."
