Everton midfielder Beni Baningime close to leaving in free transfer switch

Beni Baningime is close to leaving Everton on a permanent deal with a move to Hearts nearly complete.

The 22-year-old midfielder is in Edinburgh today to finalise a switch to the Scottish Premier League side.

Everton gave Baningime permission to travel to Scotland today after agreeing terms on what was left on his Goodison contract, which was due to expire next summer.

Baningime has completed his Hearts medical and is understood to be signing a three-year-deal with the Tynecastle club, on a free transfer.

The midfielder joined Everton at the age of nine and made his first-team breakthrough in 2017 when caretaker boss David Unsworth handed him a Premier League debut in a game with Leicester City.

Baningime has been unable to build on that spell in the senior ranks and injury issues meant loan spells with Wigan Athletic and Derby County failed to ignite.

The Academy product came close to joining Blackpool last summer but remained at the club but is now ready to join Hearts.
