Everton midfielder Andre Gomes thanks fans for support after surgery on horror ankle injury

Andre Gomes has thanked those who have sent him well wishes in the Everton midfielder's first public comments since suffering an ankle fracture-dislocation.

The Spaniard is not expected to return to first-team action until next season after being clipped by Heung-min Son against Tottenham on Sunday and losing his balance.

Gomes underwent surgery on Monday, which his club said had gone "extremely well".

And on Wednesday evening, the 26-year-old posted a video message on his Twitter account in which he said: "Hi everyone. As you already know, everything went well [with the surgery]. I'm already at home with my family.

"I would like to thank you all for the support, messages and positive energy. Thank you."

Son was sent off for his involvement in the incident, referee Martin Atkinson initially getting out a yellow card before brandishing a red, but an independent panel overturned the decision on Tuesday.
