Everton midfielder Andre Gomes sends special and emotional message to NHS workers

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has sent a special message of thanks to National Health Service workers as the fight against the coronavirus pandemic continues across the UK.

On Wednesday evening, it was confirmed that a raft of Premier League players had launched a collective initiative to provide financial assistance to the NHS - including a number of Blues stars.

The initiative - named #PlayersTogether - has been formed to ‘help those fighting for us on the NHS frontline’ and it has partnered with NHS Charities Together (NHSCT).

It sees the creation of a contribution fund, which will be distributed to areas that need it most during this national crisis.

And, following that announcement, Gomes has taken to social media to send a special message to health service wokers.

The midfielder said: "I'd like to record a message to all the brave and dedicated NHS health workers during this difficult time.

"Your commitment to help others is amazing. We all know this is a difficult moment, especially for you. Some of you are not spending time with your families and you are taking a lot of risks to save lives.

"So, I would like to say we are all proud of you, and a special thank you from me, and from Everton football club."

Gomes was one of a large number of Everton players to share news of the #PlayersTogether launch on Wednesday evening.

A statement was released across the social media accounts of a raft of Premier League footballers at the same time to show stars breaking down club boundaries and standing together in this crisis.
