Everton make safe standing decision ahead of new stadium opening at Bramley-Moore Dock

Everton are not applying to be part of a safe standing pilot programme that starts next year.

Clubs in the Premier League and Championship had until today to submit an application to the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) - but the Blues will not be among the hopefuls.

Everton are planning for the North and South stands in the club's new 52,888 capacity stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock to be fitted with rail seating, ahead of any change in legislation, but will not be introducing it at Goodison.

Successful applicants will be given a licence to implement safe standing from January 1, until the end of the season.

Retro-fitting Goodison with rail seating would prove too problematic and so the Blues are, instead, focusing their efforts with regards to safe standing on the club's new waterfront home, which could be open in the 2023-24 season.

Supporters are expected to be surveyed about safe standing again, as part of a wider questionnaire about the matchday experience at Bramley-Moore Dock.
