Everton have sacked Marco Silva.
The decision comes less than 24 hours after the Toffees were beaten 5-2 by Liverpool in the Merseyside derby - a result which has left the side in the Premier League relegation zone.
Silva leaves Goodison Park following talks between Farhad Moshiri and the board of directors.
A statement via the club's official website reads.
"Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the Club.
"Majority Shareholder Farhad Moshiri, Chairman Bill Kenwright and the Board of Directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.
"Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for the game against Chelsea on Saturday.
"The Club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible."
The Toffees opting to part company with Silva comes just days before they host Chelsea.
According to the Liverpool ECHO , Silva was at Finch Farm on Thursday to begin preparations for the clash at Goodison Park, but now Duncan Ferguson will take charge as interim head coach.
Frank Lampard will hope the change of manager doesn't inspire the Merseyside outfit to repeating the 2-0 win from the corresponding meeting last season.
