Ellis Simms will remain at Everton until the January transfer window according to David Unsworth.
Simms made the step-up into under-23 football last season after scoring 37 goals in 25 matches for the under-18s following his release from Manchester City earlier in his career.
He scored eight in 15 Premier League 2 appearances during the previous campaign and has bagged three in as many games this term after a well-taken brace against Derby County on Monday.
U23s manager Unsworth told the ECHO the centre-forward is in the same position as another starlet who has recently caught the eye at first-team level.
"It's very similar to what we had with Anthony Gordon last year!" he said. "You probably hear me screaming at Ellis more than any other player in the team.
"It's just a really hard position to play in, as a striker, particularly off-the-ball.
"With the ball, moving forward, creating opportunities and scoring goals, you put a big tick in the box with Ellis but there's more to being a Premier League footballer than scoring goals at youth level.
"You've got to have that work rate, you've got to have that understanding of when to press and when to sit off and help your team, and these are all the finer details we're putting in Ellis.
"It's what he needs to play in our first-team. You look how hard Dominic works for our first-team with his work-rate and unselfish runs to help the team, and with Ellis it's a work in progress.
"He'll get there but there's so much more to come. I have no doubt that we'll get there in the end."
Simms will turn 20 in January and Unsworth believes exposure to first-team training can benefit him in the short-term before making a decision on a potential loan move after Christmas.
"He's a great lad and he's going to stay with us until January and we're going to work with him tirelessly," the former Everton defender added.
"He'll get his opportunities training with the first-team which is a great carrot for him. If he continues to score goals he will always hit the headlines but there is so much more to come from him."
