Everton make brilliant commitment to former players and managers in isolation

Everton have reached out to former players and managers as part of their Blue Family campaign.

The club has been committed to keeping in touch with elderly and vulnerable members of the community in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, leaving many self-isolating in their own homes.

The Blue Family campaign has already contacted more than 1,000 isolated supporters - and that commitment has also extended to former players and bosses.

1966 FA Cup hero Derek Temple, 1970 title-winning pair Jimmy Husband and Roger Kenyon and Jimmy Harris, scorer of 72 Everton goals in the 1950s, have all been contacted by the club.

Everton has also reached out to Dave Thomas, John Bailey, Jim Pearson and Wayne Clarke, with more former players being called each day.

Meanwhile, the Blues have contacted former managers Joe Royle, Mike Walker and Gordon Lee - while also making phone calls to Pat Labone and Barbara King, the widows of club legends Brian and Andy respectively.

Everton’s Broadcast & Liaison Manager Darren Griffiths told evertonfc.com : “Former players are a huge part of the club and it is important they are included in the Blue Family campaign as we face these difficult times together.

"It’s been a pleasure to reach out to the guys who entertained us so well during their playing days.

"Dave Thomas is keeping well despite his visual issues, Jimmy Harris is still active at the age of 86 and Gordon Lee was out on a short walk when I called last week.

"Every former player we’ve contacted has been so pleased to be considered and we have reassured them all that Everton Football Club is here whenever they need us.

"The guys have been brilliant - Jim Pearson even offered to call ‘supporters who may remember me’, which was terrific."
