Everton loanee surgery confirmed after suffering ankle injury in training

Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that Jarrad Branthwaite will undergo surgery on Tuesday after sustaining an ankle injury with the club.

The Everton loanee made the temporary switch to the Championship side in January and made 10 league appearances before picking up the issue in training last month.

Tony Mowbray quickly revealed that he was not expecting the Blues centre-back to feature for his side again this term after confirming that the teenager had rolled his ankle in a session with the club.

And now, taking to social media on Tuesday, Blackburn have confirmed surgery for Branthwaite with a brief message.

The club posted on Twitter: "Wishing a speedy recovery to @Jarradbranthwa1, who will have an operation on his ankle injury later today.

"All the best, Jarrad!"

Branthwaite became the first signing of Carlo Ancelotti's time at Goodison Park when he joined Everton from Carlisle United in January 2020.

The youngster made his Premier League breakthrough late in the 2019/20 season as an injury crisis at the back for the Blues opened up on opportunity.

Before heading out on loan this term, the 18-year-old was mainly involved with the U23s setup and had made just one first team appearance - playing 24 minutes of the League Cup win over Salford City before picking up an injury.
