Everton loanee set for 'considerable' time on sidelines after latest injury update

Everton loanee Lewis Gibson is set for a "considerable" amount of time out of the Sheffield Wednesday side through injury.

The centre-back completed a temporary switch to the League One club in the summer having failed to regularly nail down a place in the Reading side throughout their Championship term in 2020/21.

The 21-year-old was handed his first start of the season by Darren Moore earlier this month, but only managed 45 minutes before being forced off through injury.

Now, the Sheffield Wednesday manager has confirmed that the defender could be facing a long spell on the sidelines, although he didn't commit to putting an exact time-frame on the problem.

"Lewis Gibson's going to be out for some considerable time, which is disappointing news for us.

"What length of time that is, I wouldn't be able to tell you.

"It was a muscular injury he picked up in the Bolton game, really. He just can't get back."

Gibson is currently undertaking his third loan spell away from Everton in the last three seasons after particularly impressing during his temporary time with Fleetwood Town for the second half of 2019/20.
