Everton loanee Jonjoe Kenny praises Schalke manager and opens up on first goal for club

Jonjoe Kenny has praised the belief Schalke manager David Wagner has shown in him after scoring his first Bundesliga goal.

The Everton right-back, who is on loan with the Bundesliga outfit, bagged his side's third goal during their 3-0 win at home to Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Despite Kenny scoring the final goal, with an excellent right-footed strike from the right top corner of the penalty area, it was actually Schalke's first goal this season scored by one of their own players - following a 0-0 draw in the first game before a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich and two own goals being turned in against Hertha.

“People know me for the defending, and that’s my main point as a right-back, but the coach has told me how to get forward,” the 22-year-old said.

“He wants me to get higher and he’s always got belief in me. So when someone has a lot of belief in you, you feel more relaxed and want to show what you can do.”

Kenny is on a season-long loan at Schalke and has played every minute of the campaign so far.

He scored with his first attempt on goal of the season.

“I’ve just seen the opportunity to strike it,” the England U21 international told the official Bundesliga website.

“I've scored one like this before [for England] and I've done it before.

“We have a lot of confidence but it was massive to go and get three points, win 3-0 and I thought we played really well. So, it was a good win all round.”
