Everton lineups vs Newcastle as Jordan Pickford decision made and Gylfi Sigurdsson returns

'Strike it up as rotation' - Phil Kirkbride

The position which will fix everyone's gaze as the team-sheet drops at 11:30 this morning, will be goalkeeper.

Carlo Ancelotti refused to divulge if Jordan Pickford would keep his place for today's game, when asked at his pre-match press conference, but certainly left it open that he would not.

With a game to follow on Wednesday night at Leeds, Ancelotti can use Robin Olsen today and strike it up as, simply, rotation.

Who to choose at right-back is a tricky one. Everton will be expected to be far more adventurous here than they were against Leicester so Lucas Digne should go back to left-back - but what about on the opposite side?

Seamus Coleman? Stick with Mason Holgate? No, use Ben Godfrey there. He offers something in the middle of those two. Not as good going forward as Coleman can be, but better than Holgate. And while both Coleman and Holgate are to be relied upon defensively, Godfrey is the man in form.

Ancelotti also needs to recall Gylfi Sigurdsson for this game to help Everton dominate possession.

My team (4-3-3): Olsen, Godfrey, Mina, Keane, Digne, Doucoure, Sigurdsson, Gomes, Rodriguez, Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison

'See how Godfrey does at centre-back' - Adam Jones

The return of Abdoulaye Doucoure is going to be the big change for this game, but who does he come into the side for?

Andre Gomes looked good with a selection of passes against Leicester, while Tom Davies' defensive work was stronger than the Portugal international.

I would be tempted to just lean towards the latter this time around, as this will be a good test for Davies to create chances against a midfield Everton should dominate.

Elsewhere, I think the only other changes should come in defence, with Lucas Digne reverting to left back and club captain Seamus Coleman taking his place in the side again.

For the sake of variety, I'd put Ben Godfrey next to Michael Keane for this game, to see how he does at centre-back for a Premier League match.

That leaves a space on the left wing Richarlison should move over to fill, with Alex Iwobi coming back into the side to provide his unique brand of direct creativity.

My team (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Coleman, Godfrey, Keane, Digne; Davies, Doucoure; Iwobi, James, Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin

'James Rodriguez plays deeper' - Sam Carroll

Robin Olsen replaces Jordan Pickford against Newcastle United once more this season.

Pickford had been in solid - if unspectacular - form before Leicester City but the equaliser from Youri Tielmans was hard to take.

Lucas Digne slides back into defence to facilitate the return of Alex Iwobi while Abdoulaye Doucoure is back after suspension.

James Rodriguez plays deeper alongside the Frenchman with Gylfi Sigurdsson to get Everton on the front foot as much as possible.

Ben Godfrey keeps his place at the expense of Seamus Captain too. The summer signing has been simply superb since December.

My team (4-3-3): Olsen; Godfrey, Mina, Keane, Digne; Doucoure, Sigurdsson, Rodriguez; Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison

'The big question surrounding Carlo's team selection' - Connor O'Neill

The big question around Carlo Ancelotti's team selection for this afternoon’s game is who starts in goal.

There is no doubt that Ancelotti has remained loyal to Jordan Pickford since his arrival at the club, as have thousands of fans.

But following Wednesday’s mistake against Leicester City, the time has come for the England international to be dropped for Robin Olsen.

The Swedish international has done very little wrong in the games he has played this season and deserves to start against Steve Bruces’ side.

Given how well Michael Keane and Yerry Mina have done lately, it is almost impossible to believe either of those two will be watching on from the bench.

While it is hard to see past Lucas Digne starting at left-back, and Ben Godfrey starting at right-back for the Blues.

In midfield, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Gylfi Sigurdsson should both come back in, with James Rodriguez playing in the more advanced role.

Out wide, it has to be Alex Iwobi on the right, Richarlison on the left, and Dominc Calvert-Lewin up top.

My team (4-2-3-1): Olsen, Godfrey, Mina, Keane, Digne, Doucoure, Sigurdsson, Rodriguez, Iwobi, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.
