Everton line-ups vs Tottenham Hotspur as Carlo Ancelotti has James Rodriguez decision

Phil Kirkbride - Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure all start

New season, new hope and, hopefully, a new-look team.

Because if Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure are all fit then they have to play.

It is only fair to expect they might need a period of adaptation - especially Allan and Rodriguez - but if Ancelotti can, then he needs to start the process off right away.

The Everton boss played a 4-3-3 at Spurs in July but if Allan and Doucoure are available then he should go back to 4-4-2, play Rodriguez out wide on the right, Anthony Gordon on the left and Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin upfront.

Jonjoe Kenny should also start and be given the chance he deserves to show how his season in Germany has made him a better player.

My team (4-4-2): Pickford; Kenny, Keane, Mina, Digne; Rodriguez, Allan, Doucoure; Gordon, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.

Sam Carroll - James Rodriguez factor needed

James Rodriguez has to start.

Pre-season or no pre-season he is better than the alternatives available to Carlo Ancelotti and his inclusion in the line-up at Tottenham Hotspur will give every single player inside that Everton dressing room a boost.

It is also something else for Jose Mourinho to worry about.

Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure start in midfield with Andre Gomes and Seamus Coleman is - just about - given the nod ahead of Jonjoe Kenny.

Rodriguez begins on the right of a front three where Ancelotti has previously watched him flourish at Real Madrid with Richarlison cutting inside on the opposite flank.

My team (4-3-3): Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Mina, Digne; Doucoure, Allan, Gomes; Rodriguez, Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison.

Caoimhe O'Neill - Three new signings all in action

The Premier League is back and so are Everton.

Jordan Pickford starts in goal away to Spurs as the Blues look to put three points all on the board in the capital city.

Full-back duo Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman are out on the flanks with Michael Keane and Yerry Mina the centre-back pairing of choice.

The Colombian will be buoyed by the arrival of international team-mate James Rodriguez who also has to start.

Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure join ex-Barcelona man Andre Gomes in a three-man midfield while Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin combine with James up-front.

My team (4-3-3): Pickford; Digne, Mina, Keane, Coleman; Allan, Gomes, Doucoure; Rodriguez, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.
