Everton line up £30million transfer swoop for former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can

Everton are lining up a sensational £30million swoop for former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

Can, a Germany international, is wanted by new Goodison boss Carlo Ancelotti after being told he is surplus to requirements at Juventus.

Inter Milan have also been monitoring the 26-year-old, but are unwilling to match Juve’s asking price or the player’s wages of £100,000-a-week.

And that has opened the door for Everton to make a move – although there is a worry that Can’s past career at Anfield could be a problem.

The former Bayern Munich star has already made it clear that he would not agree to a move to Manchester United out of respect for Liverpool.

So it remains to be seen whether Everton’s fierce rivalry with the Reds could be a deal breaker.

Ancelotti is looking to strengthen the squad he inherited from Marco Silva last month.

He wanted to sign Can in the summer, when he was in charge of Napoli, but the fee demanded by Juventus was deemed too high.

The Italian champions are looking to cash in on the player at a healthy profit.

They signed Can from Liverpool for £13m in the summer of 2018 after he refused to sign a new contract to remain on Merseyside.

Can spent four years at Anfield and was a key member of the Reds team that finished second in the Premier League in 2014.
