Everton let Liverpool's Champions League rivals use training ground

Everton allowed Liverpool's Champions League opponents the use of the club's Finch Farm training ground this morning to help prepare for their clash at Anfield.

Italian side Atalanta face the Reds this evening (8pm) in their Group D clash and they required somewhere to undertake a light session this morning.

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini was part of the coaching staff at Juventus when Carlo Ancelotti managed the club between 1999-2001 and asked his old boss for a favour.

The Serie A side needed a Covid-secure training facility for their on-game preparations and Everton were able to offer them the use of pitches on the opposite side of the Halewood complex to where the Blues' first-team usually train.

Atalanta are third in Group D after three games and lost 5-0 at home to Liverpool recently.

Everton faced Gasperini's side in the 2017 Europa League group stages, losing 3-0 in Italy and then 5-1 at Goodison.
