Everton legend opens up on club's decision to sell Gary Lineker

Everton legend Colin Harvey has opened up on the decision to sell Gary Lineker to Barcelona after the former Blues striker took to social media to praise the club.

On Wednesday evening, the Match Of The Day host took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Howard's Way - the brilliant documentary made surrounding the club's most famous side.

Lineker spent just one season with Everton before moving to Barcelona, and club legend Harvey believes the offer from the Catalan giants was too good for his side to turn down.

He said: "He [Lineker] was quick and a great goal scorer, he kept his head in the penalty area and scored some great goals for us that season.

"It was such a good offer and the club felt they couldn't turn it down. He was also very ambitious and so Howard accepted the offer.

"Inchy [Adrian Heath] signed a new contract and he scored 11 goals the next season and gave us three or four different options in the team. And of course we went on to win the league."

Harvey also revealed a behind-the-scenes fact from Lineker's amazing scoring season.

The striker liked to wear the same boots for every match - and suffered some interesting consequences when he couldn't find them for one particular game!

"He wore the same boots, they were a battered pair," Harvey added.

"I did the same when I was a player, one pair of boots for the season, not like now.

"He couldn't find them before the game so had to wear another pair. He missed two or three really good chances and we lost the game 1-0.

"When we were tidying up in the dressing room afterwards we found them, they were pushed under a radiator behind the bench, so they were there, he just couldn't find them."
