Everton legend Neville Southall shares defiant message to fans over support of Jordan Pickford

Neville Southall has sent a message to Everton fans urging them to get behind Jordan Pickford just like they did with him.

The goalkeeper picked up some criticism for his performance in the League Cup victory over Fleetwood Town on Wednesday evening, with the Blues eventually winning the match 5-2.

However, many believed that the England No.1 was at fault for the goals that the hosts scored and bemoaned a number of mistakes that have been in the shot-stopper's game recently.

But Everton legend Southall has voiced his defence of Pickford.

The former Blues goalkeeper took to Twitter to share his message to those giving the current No. 1 criticism, posting a picture of an angry dog along with a message of support.

His tweet read: "Me listening to criticism of Jordan Pickford. This is a time to support him. Just like u did me when I was going through a bad time.

"With your help I did ok in end."

Southall made the move to Everton from Bury in 1981 but had some early struggles in his career at Goodison Park, at one point being sent out on loan to Port Vale.

However, the goalkeeper returned to the Blues and established himself as the best goalkeeper in the world during one particular portion of his time on Merseyside.

The former Wales international became one of the most iconic figures in Everton's best ever side before leaving the club on a permanent basis in 1998.
