Everton left stunned by Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid as Blues prepare new manager search

Everton are braced to begin searching for their fifth new manager in eight years as Carlo Ancelotti edges nearer to a reunion with Real Madrid.

The Blues boss looks increasingly likely to swap Goodison for a return to the Bernabeu this week in a move that has stunned the club.

Ancelotti managed the Spanish giants between 2013-15 and won the Champions League during his spell in Madrid.

Since the arrival of Farhad Moshiri to the club in 2016, Everton have fired Roberto Martinez and then hired Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva, before appointing Ancelotti in December 2019.

But the Italian's reign looks set to last less than 18 months with a return to Real now understood to be in the process of happening.

Everton will be due some compensation, should Ancelotti's move to Real go through, but break clauses are common in most managerial contracts and so the money due to the Blues is not yet known.
