Everton Ladies set to benefit from grant to improve home ground

Everton Ladies are set to benefit from a council-backed initiative which will develop a "new home venue" for the club at Walton Hall Park.

The team already play home matches at the park but funding from the Football Foundation will mean the facilities at Liverpool Soccer Centre are upgraded to meet ground grading requirements for the Women's Super League.

Liverpool Council's cabinet backed the plans to accept a £150,000 grant from the foundation which it applied for in conjunction with Liverpool County FA and Everton Ladies FC.

A report to cabinet says: "The Liverpool Soccer Centre provides access to high quality facilities for Liverpool County FA, Alsop High School, Liverpool Schools FA and the local community.

"The City Council was approached by Everton Ladies FC (ELFC) and the Football Foundation regarding a proposal to create a long-term partnership with the Council and Liverpool County FA (LCFA) to facilitate a new home venue for ELFC at the existing soccer centre complex at Walton Hall Park."

The total cost of the work is estimated at £285,000, with the outstanding sum funded by the club.

Liverpool Council itself will not receive the £150,000 of funding from the Football Foundation, which will instead by paid to Everton, although the council has already paid £30,000 towards improvements to the changing pavilion.

Once the work is complete Everton Ladies will use the centre as a permanent base for home fixtures.

It was confirmed on Friday that the club will finish sixth in this season's Women's Super League after a decision to end the season now.

The decision will see fellow top flight club Liverpool Ladies relegated to the Championship.
