Everton keeper Jordan Pickford breaks silence after England's Euro 2020 final defeat

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has broken his silence and admitted he's "absolutely gutted" following England's Euro 2020 final defeat.

The Three Lions lost to Italy on penalties at Wembley on Sunday night after what was a spirited performance to reach the country's first major final in 55 years, drawing 1-1 after extra time in the decider.

The Blues star particularly was excellent throughout the course of the competition and continued those displays into the clash with Roberto Mancini's men.

Despite the 27-year-old saving spot kicks from Andrea Belotti and Jorginho - England were condemned to defeat as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed their attempts from 12 yards.

In the aftermath of the match, the squad have trickled onto social media to share their respective thoughts on the last few weeks, and Pickford has become the latest to do that.

Taking to Instagram the goalkeeper spoke of his disappointment to have not won Sunday's final, but thanked supporters for their support.

The post read: "I’m absolutely gutted that we couldn’t get over the line on Sunday night.

"We as a team did everything we could to bring it home but unfortunately that’s football. It just wasn’t meant to be for us this time.

"It’s been a pleasure to be in this camp with the lads over the last 7 weeks. I can’t thank you enough for all the support we’ve received - and although we fell short, we made memories that will last a life time.

"We will come back and do everything we can to make you all proud once again."

Pickford will now be given an extended break before returning to Finch Farm and beginning his preparations ahead of a crucial 2021/22 campaign with Everton.
