Everton intensify new manager search as Carlo Ancelotti 'success' comments a kick in the teeth

Your Everton morning digest for Friday, June 4.

Everton intensify new manager search

Everton received the names of more than 40 managers who are interested in replacing Carlo Ancelotti within 24 hours of his departure.

And last night, the Blues' board were sifting through the hopefuls and ready to produce a shortlist of candidates to succeed the Italian who quit for Real Madrid in a shock move on Tuesday.

It is believed that dialogue has already been opened with Nuno Espirito Santo but Everton are not close to making the appointment of a fifth manager of Farhad Moshiri's tenure, at this stage.

Instead, the club's power-brokers have met at least twice since Ancelotti's exit to discuss their plans and director of football Marcel Brands was, yesterday, sifting through the mountain of names on his desk submitted by representatives of managers who want their client's name in the mix.

Ancelotti 'success' comments are a kick in the teeth

Carlo Ancelotti went some way to burning bridges with Everton fans on Wednesday evening.

The Italian faced the media in a press conference for the first time since confirming his return to Real Madrid 24 hours previously, having walked out on the Blues with three years left on his contract.

With many of the journalists understandably fully focused on the Spanish giants rather than the club the 61-year-old had just left, Everton didn't really come up a lot in well over half-an-hour of questions.

But, when the club was eventually referenced, it caused a bit of a stir among some.

Ancelotti remarked: "The objective of Everton is to try and get into European football, to fight to try and get into European football."
