Everton identify Luis Boa Morte to become Marco Silva's new assistant manager

Everton are looking to appoint former Arsenal forward Luis Boa Morte as the club's new assistant manager.

Marco Silva's long-serving No2 Joao Pedro Sousa has left Goodison to become boss of Portuguese side Famalicão.

Sousa had been Silva's right hand man through his managerial career but has returned to his homeland to fulfil his coaching ambitions.

The Blues have now stepped up their efforts to find his replacement and are targeting Boa Morte.

Silva worked with the 41-year-old during his time at Sporting Lisbon where the former Portugal international coached the club's under-19s.

Boa Morte spent 14 years playing in England with Arsenal, Southampton, Fulham and West Ham before a spell with Chesterfield in 2012.

And his knowledge of the English game is a big part of Silva's reasons for wanting to bring him to Goodison.

Boa Morte is currently serving as assistant manager at Maccabi Haifa and has previously taken charge of Portuguese club Sintrense.
