Everton have transfer approach for Rangers defender Nathan Patterson rejected

Everton have had an approach for Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson rejected.

The Blues want to strengthen in that position before the close of the transfer window and have moved for the 19-year-old.

It is unclear at this stage if Everton plan to return with a second bid for the Scottish defender.

Patterson would be seen as one for the future and Everton have been looking for Seamus Coleman’s long-term successor for a number of seasons.

But manager Rafa Benitez could yet still push for the arrival of a more experienced right-back to offer immediate competition for Coleman this season

Glasgow born Patterson came through the ranks at Ibrox and is contracted until the summer of 2024.
