Everton have still not seen their 'best' centre-back partnership

I would argue Everton's best centre-back partnership could be one we haven't seen yet! Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey.

That's what I'd probably pick, but you cannot fault anyone who's stepped into that back line this year. With injuries, a lot of lads have had opportunities.

Mason Holgate has come in and been great, Godfrey has been immense, Yerry Mina's levels have got much better, Keane has probably been one of Everton's best players over the last 12 months or so.

It's a very difficult question to pick our best out of those options, but it's a problem we want all over the pitch.

We're probably pleased as fans no matter who is playing in those positions across the back line. Lucas Digne's a fantastic first choice for example, but when Godfrey has played in that position he's more than held his own.

That's all down to competition, the levels have gone up. The way Carlo and the coaching staff have got these players defending, playing a lot deeper with not much space behind them, has suited them massively.

We can't play a high line, we haven't got the pace for it. We're going to defend deep, make it difficult for opponents to find space in our box and protect our goal.

It's all thumbs up for that, but moving forward we want that same puzzle elsewhere in the squad. In midfield and up front.

That's what you want from a successful football club, I think that's what you need from a successful football club.

That's what I feel Carlo will be asking the board for.
